MOZART AND SALIERI with MOZART'S REQUIEM MASS IN D MINOR
Mozart and Salieri, Rimsky Korsakov's last opera, tells the story of jealousy felt by talent, however exceptional, for the unpredictable and uncovenanted gift of genius. This dramatic and unusual opera, while practically unperformed, has grown in popularity due to the international success of the movie Amadeus.
Mr. Storojev has performed this opera on many occasions in concert setting in prestigious venues such as the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia in Rome, Berlin Radio Orchestra in Berlin, Paris, Monterrey, San Antonio, etc. He also recorded Mozart and Salieri with Chandos Records. This opera is ideal for the concert setting because it is short in length (45 min.) and involves only two singers: bass (Salieri) and tenor (Mozart). It can also be performed with semi-staging, a very popular option that requires only a small amount of space on stage.
Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor (K. 626). In the story of Mozart and Salieri, Mozart shows Salieri his Requiem Mass. A short excerpt is actually featured in the opera, making this an especially potent combination. If these two works are put together, the bass and tenor can perform in both.
